Neighborhood Pictures

These are some great shots taken by our neighbors (thanks!). It is wonderful to see different perspectives.

A view of the garage before the 2nd floor is in place:

A great shot of the steel large beam over the Tai Chi practice area. The frame sticking out above the 2nd floor is the approximate location of the stairs.

In between rain clouds, this is another view of the Tai Chi area, steel beam and gorgeous view of the valley:

Beam me up

First floor nearly enclosed. Steel beams are necessary due to some loads anticipated on the 2nd floor. This will eliminate the need for posts in the center of the Tai Chi room.

There is a beam down the center of the garage. Not sure if there is a center support required.

A partial look at the thickness of the wall being installed around the house:

Anticipate the 2nd floor to be framed and/or enclosed today (Saturday). Doors, windows, and cabinets entering the ordering queue.

Foundation #2

Sunday drive and visit to the foundation.

Don't blink!

Foundation

The slab was poured on Saturday. It has started raining which comes as no surprise. It seems to always want to rain when slabs are poured. On track for framing on Tuesday.

Forms

The building crew is back. The area for the pad was flooded with 3000 gallons of water and then compacted with gravel. The whole pad has 2 inches of insulation on the outside and 8 inches of insulation on the inside of the pad. Overseas, typical insulation is 18 inches between the concrete pad and the ground. Doorways and garage entrances have a thermal break as concrete is a good conductor of cold in and heat out of the house.

The red tube is radiant heat in the slabs. The home will have 4 heating zones.

Saturday? The big pour? More pictures Sunday. Framing to begin as early as Tuesday.
